Overview:
Camp McDougall is excited to offer a Counsellor in Training (CIT) opportunity for enthusiastic young
people aged 14–16 who love working with children and enjoy being outdoors. This program is ideal for
past campers or individuals interested in developing leadership skills and learning what it means to be a
camp counsellor.
The CIT program is a volunteer position designed to build confidence, responsibility, and teamwork
while giving participants meaningful experience in a supportive camp environment.
We are seeking individuals who:
- Are 14–16 years old
- Enjoy working with children and being part of a community
- Are enthusiastic, responsible, and eager to learn
- Have some experience working with children (e.g., babysitting, helping with younger siblings, volunteering,
coaching) - Are comfortable being outdoors and participating in camp activities
What the CIT Program Includes
- Invitation to participate in Camp McDougall’s training week (June 28-July 3, 2026), where CITs will learn:
- Leadership and teamwork skills
- Basic first aid and safety awareness
- Camp routines, expectations, and counsellor responsibilities
- Hands-on experience supporting counsellors and campers during the summer
- Opportunities to observe and practice leadership skills in a real camp setting
- Mentorship from senior camp staff and counsellors
Volunteer Commitment
- Based on applicant performance at the training week, CITs will work with camp leadership to create a volunteer
schedule that fits their individual availability. - CITs may volunteer for select weeks during the summer, based on camp needs and personal schedules.
- For students entering or currently enrolled in secondary school, volunteer hours may count toward the 40
mandatory community involvement hours (as per school board guidelines).
